Cook the egg for 15 minutes puzzle

You are trying to cook an egg for exactly 15 minutes, but instead of a timer, you are given two ropes which burn for exactly 1 hour each. The ropes, however, are of uneven densities – i e , half the rope length-wise might take only two minutes to burn. How can you cook the egg for exactly 15 minutes?

Solution :

Lets say ,both the ropes(rope1 & rope2) has X units of length each.And each rope will take 2 minutes to burn X1 units of length (Less dense parts) and 58 minutes to rest X2 units length(More dense parts).

Given, X1=X2

X=X1+X2

Statement 1: X1 takes 2 mins to burn.

Statement 1: X2 takes 58 mins to burn

Now from the above statements it is clear that 1/4th of X2 will take exactly 14 mins & 30 secs  and 1/4th X1 will take 30 seconds of to burn.If we burn them separately one after another it  will take 15 mins to finish those 1/4 th parts of X1 and X2.

Statement 3: 1/4th of thicker part and 1/4th less thicker part separately will take exactly 15 to burn.

Now we can easily cook the egg for exactly 15 mins.
